Creative Writing
Over the past few months I have been working closely with Tom Murray and Stuart Hepburn,co writers in residence for Clackmannanshire.What an asset they have turned out to be.Would-be writers are flocking out of the closet with all kinds of ideas ,looking for advice or help to take the next step.
If you are one of those people with a story or poetry in your soul, want to write for TV or just need help compiling a newsletter then speak to Stuart or Tom.Workshops are held monthly in Alloa library.no experience is necessary and all are welcome.Tom runs a surgery 3pm-7pm.this is a chance for writers to meet one to one with Tom to discuss any aspect of their writing.Appointments can be made through Alloa library.01259 722262
Tom Murray is a full time writer.He has been a lecturer in creative writing and has worked extensively with writers groups and schools.He is editor of the literary magazine The Eildon Tree.He has had a collection of stories and a poetry collection published,and has been widely published in magazines and anthologies in the USA and Canada as well as the UK.
Tom is keen to work with individuals and groups who wish to explore their creativity through writing.No experience is necessary.So far in the region he has worked with writers at all levels of experience.He has also helped start a clackmannanshire youth theatre group.This group will shortly be going into rehearsals for their first production.A play written by Tom in collaboration with the group.
He has also ran workshops with Reachout,and is currently working with Glasgow School of Art on a project.He recently ran workshops in the Arts Academy for young people held in local high schools and will also be visiting Tullibody`s Artshop regularly.you can contact Tom via Alloa library or at tmurray@clacksweb.org.uk
Stuart Hepburn left school in Glenrothes at 16 and worked for 7 years in a paper mill and carpet factory in his native Fife.He escaped to the University of Stirling where he took a degree in politics and sociology.He has lived in the area ever since.
Stuart has been a full time writer and actor for the past 25 years, appearing on stage and screen all over the country,and penning such works as Taggart,Hamish Macbeth,Monarch of the Glen,McCallum and many others.He is a lecturer in creative writing and performance at the University of Paisley,and is presently creating a major new television series for RTE in Ireland for paralell films.
He cycles to work and tries to maintain a small carbon footprint,has a fish called Wanda and supports Dunfermline Athletic.

The Plot Thickens....
Stuart will present the latest in a series of practical writing workshops at Alloa library at 7pm on Tuesday 4th September.
Stuart said "Have you ever wondered how to create storylines and plots?Had trouble with your inciting incident and lost track of your narrative thread?"
"Then come along with a sharpened pencil and a sheet of paper to enjoy an evening of dark plots,sub plots and surprising twists.And we make a mean cup of tea too!"
